Personal Snow Removal

Recently, it has been observed that many residents and property owners have engaged in the practice of plowing, snow-blowing, and/or shoveling snow from their own sidewalks and driveways into the streets and roadways of the village, particularly after the Department of Public Works has come through and cleared the roads of snow and ice.
Such practice is prohibited by state statute (Michigan Vehicle Code: 257.677a, (4) A person shall not deposit, or cause to be deposited, snow, ice, or slush on any roadway or highway), and also constitutes a nuisance condition which is prohibited under village ordinance #326 (361-3(A)(4)...perform a duty...which...interferes with, obstructs, or tends to obstruct or renders dangerous for passage any public or private street, highway, sidewalk, stream, ditch or drainage).
Enforcement of state statute and village code will be forthcoming when witnessed. Fines include $100 for first time offense, $250 for second offense, and $500 for repeat offenses.

Please be mindful of our roadways and the safety and welfare of fellow residents, and ensure that cleared snow is deposited safely away from public streets and roadways.
